Back to Tampa Bay Way
Friends of Brooker Creek
Government site
This is a nature walk that nobody knows about in
Pinellas County. To get there drive east bound on Keystone Road maybe 5
miles. You’ll see a sign “Brooker Creek Preserve” turn right and you’ll
be going down a long road to a parking area. Be sure to watch the grass
lands as you drive. Many animals are in the fields and you can’t see
them if your traveling to fast. We seen wild turkeys on our recent trip
there. There is an entrance to a walk way through the swamp and forest.
This walkway has a very interesting metal art arch as you approach two
building. The first building looks like a school and the second building
is an information center. There you’ll find a gift shop, lots of
information about the preserve. They have bathrooms and water fountains
in the building. There is a movie to watch that explains how the area
has changed over the years. The movie last about 12 minutes and is worth
watching. Once you’ve watched the movie you can go into an area filled
with interesting displays. There are other short movies to watch in
another room. You could spend some time here and feel good about going
there. The preserve was build by the penny for Pinellas, this money is
well spent. There are trails to walk but you’ll have to cross over
Brooker Creek. As of May 05 there are plans to build a bridge over the
brook but it’s not there now. When the bridge is here this will be a
great place to go and enjoy a walk. Bring your camera. Talking with
people at the preserve we leaned about another
trail a short distance away. This trail is east of the Brooker Creek
Preserve on Laura Road. There are no signs that we saw on
Keystone Road for the trail only “Dead End”. You have to drive
to the end of Laura Road and park.
